The pictures above shows the view we had this mornng looking West down “The Road to the Sun Road” from our motel.
We left St. Mary’s today at 8:00 with a temperature of 56 deg. and headed North on US89 to SR17 and the border crossing into Alberta, Canada. Our progress was slowed by the cattle in the road before we crossed the border.
There was some nice hilly riding through the West side of the Canadian portion of Glacier Park but as we left the park it became the normal rolling farm land and continued that way past Pinched Creek and we headed West on Provincial Road 3 to catch Provincial Road 22 North. The mountains were always visible to the West with huge farm grazing lands and hayfields to the East.
We fueled up in Longview, Alberta and turned West on PR 40 towards the mountains. The road followed the river for a ways which was full of fisherman. It soon turned into a valley heading North to Banff, the mountain views became awesome.
I took a selfie and got Bill in the background, the whole time I was taking the picture I could here my wife Pauline saying “WATCH THE ROAD!”
Wildlife was in abundance along this road.
We ended up on Canada 1 and proceded West to Banff. We found our Hotel, The King James, got settled and walked the main street business district to see what was going on.
Tomorrow on the the Jasper Nation Forest and the Icefields Parkway.
