We left the lodge at about 8:00 am with the temperature in the low 50’s. We came upon some caribou almost immediately and the climbed a very steep hill with ease. Soon after that we came upon a heard of buffalo, followed by a Black Bear with 2 cubs, that makes 9 Black Bears we’ve seen.
Our first gas stop was at Watson lake, the first place we could get premium fuel. We ran into a guy, a French Canadian our age, who told us he bought his Harley in 1982 and has over 400,000 miles with only one rebuild 10,000 miles ago.
The mountains were in the distance and the road went thru large rolling hills all the way to Teslin in the Yukon.
Motels are few and far between and the Yukon motel was close to the distance we wanted to travel for the day. It is not luxurious but clean and functionary and there is a restaurant and lounge where I can order food and eat 20% of my meal as is now the norm.
Tomorrow to the Alaska border.
