We left Wassila without seeing Sarah. We worked our way out of our disappointment by riding North to Denali and our night’s stay at the White Moose Lodge. It looked at times like it wanted to rain but we were lucky, we only encountered wet roads where it had just rained.
The terrain was relatively flat until we approached Denali with the mountains rising in front of us. We stopped at the southern viewing area and took pictures of Denali and the mountain range. This next picture is 45 miles from the mountain.
We continued on and went into the park for a look.
Bill and I drove to the park pavilion, watched a film on the park and viewed the exhibits then had a latte.
We rode the 15 miles your allowed to go into the park, took pictures and started our drive out of the park. We ran into a traffic jam caused by the sighting of a Grizzly. The bear was 300 yards out and barely visible but everyone wanted a look.
We left the park and headed North to Healy and our room at the White Moose Lodge.
Soon after we had pulled in a Volkswagen van pulled in and three people got out. The oldest person came over and we had a conversation about our travels. They were all from Israel, a father and son and the son’s friend. The son was attending school in the states with his friend and the father had come from Israel to travel with them. They had been on the road three weeks to this point and the father thought he might stay and complete the journey his son and friend were taking. Their trip was going to end in Brazil. Now at this point I should tell you that when he first walked over to me I thought he was going to ask where he could find a mechanic. The van sounded like it was having trouble in the motel parking lot, and their taking it to Brazil? Good luck.
Bill and I unpacked and walked over to the 49th State Brewery for dinner and a beer, an interesting place. We found they had good food, good beer and a great liquor selection. As I said an interesting place.
We walked back and crashed for the night.
